Every household in Kiogoro Ward of Kisii County will be connected to electricity within three weeks, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi said on Friday.
This, wandayi said, will mark a decisive end to years of darkness in parts of Nyaribari Chache Constituency.
Speaking during the launch of the electrification project Wandayi said the initiative would unlock development by empowering households, women, youth and students through reliable power supply.
He noted that he had already engaged officials from his ministry and Kenya Power to fast-track the project, adding that while not all homes may be connected immediately, the first phase must begin without delay.
“We have come to lay the foundation for electricity. Kiogoro and parts of Nyaribari Chache have been in darkness for many years, and today we begin driving that darkness away,” Wandayi said.
He noted that access to power would also improve learning outcomes by enabling students to study at night.

Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda thanked William Ruto for backing the electrification drive, saying the President had directed the Energy CS to visit the area and ensure residents are connected to the national grid.
Jhanda revealed that KSh 250 million has been allocated for development projects in the constituency and announced the rollout of a 50-kilometre tarmac road project that will cover all six wards, starting with Kiogoro.
He also disclosed plans to construct a modern market in the ward to boost trade and local economic growth.
Kiogoro Ward MCA Walter Mochache said the electrification project was the result of collaboration between his office and the MP, noting that since independence, sections of the ward had lagged behind in electricity access, forcing residents to rely on kerosene lamps.
He praised the current leadership for prioritizing power connectivity and urged security agencies to address frequent theft of electricity wires, warning that vandalism could reverse the gains made.
Mochache also highlighted the development potential of Nyakwana Waterfall, saying the county government has invested over KSh 10 million to fence and secure the site as a tourist attraction.
He added that the waterfall could in future be harnessed for small-scale hydropower generation to supplement electricity supply in Kisii County.
