Newly elected CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot officially assumed office today at the CECAFA Secretariat headquarters, signalling the start of a new leadership chapter for regional football.
Paulos was received by Hussein Mohamed, the President of the Football Kenya Federation, in a ceremony attended by CECAFA Vice-President, Secretariat staff, and senior officials. He was accompanied by CECAFA Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde.
Speaking during the handover, Paulos outlined an ambitious agenda focused on revitalising CECAFA through stronger institutional frameworks, enhanced governance, and deeper strategic partnerships.
He said collaboration with FKF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports would be central to driving sustainable football development across the region.
“Our priority is to build a stronger, more impactful CECAFA that delivers value to member associations and advances the game at all levels,” Paulos said.
Earlier in the day, the new CECAFA President held talks with officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, revealing ongoing engagements aimed at establishing a permanent CECAFA headquarters in Nairobi.
He said the move would enhance institutional stability and strengthen the organisation’s regional and continental influence.
Paulos also underscored the need to invest in skilled human resources to raise football standards, particularly as Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania prepare to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations.
In his remarks, Hussein Mohamed welcomed Paulos to office and pledged FKF’s full support.
“We are committed to working closely with CECAFA to ensure the region realises its full football potential,” he said.
