President William Ruto has nominated individuals to join the National Land Commission, following a ruling by the Court of Appeal that authorised the recruitment of a new cohort of commissioners.
Acting on the recommendations of a duly appointed Selection Panel, the President nominated a Chairperson and six members whose names have now been forwarded to Parliament for consideration.
The nominees include Dr. Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy from Kwale, Ms. Susan Khakasa Oyatsi from Kakamega, Mr. Daniel Muriithi Muriungi from Meru, Mr. Kigen Vincent Cheruiyot from Kericho, and Dr. Julie Ouma Oseko from Siaya,.
Others are Mohamed Abdi Haji Mohamed from Mandera, and Mary Yiane Seneta from Kajiado.
The names were listed in a press release signed by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Kosgei.
This action underscores the government’s adherence to constitutional requirements and judicial directives, ensuring that the Commission remains functional and representative.
Their appointment, once approved, will complement the two serving commissioners, Esther Murugi Mathenge of Nyeri and Tiyah Galgalo Ali of Isiolo, whose tenure remains protected until December 2026.
The nominations now await parliamentary approval, a step that will formally constitute the Commission and allow it to continue its mandate of overseeing land administration and management in Kenya.
