Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to sports development, underscoring its focus on elevating the global profile of Kenyan sporting events while enhancing the overall fan experience.
Speaking at Karen Country Club during the just-concluded Magical Kenya Open, KBL Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo said the company’s involvement in elite sporting events is deliberately structured to deliver world-class platforms for both athletes and spectators.
“What we are doing is just making sure that they get the best sport experience and then after that, they’ll have the best enjoyment — the best village experience,” Kilonzo said. “You get a balance of both: you come enjoy fantastic, talented sport at a world-class level.”
KBL supported the 57th edition of the tournament through its Johnnie Walker brand, committing a sponsorship package valued at KES 65 million in both cash and in-kind support. The investment played a central role in the delivery of the tournament’s entertainment village, popularly known as the “19th hole,” which has become a defining feature of the event.
This year’s entertainment lineup was headlined by Nyashinski and Njerae, with additional performances and DJ sets by Nijo, Redbone, Vera, Festa, Trixy and Benitez, further enhancing the fan experience beyond the fairways.
Kilonzo noted that the success of the Kenya Open, a flagship event on the DP World Tour, reflects Kenya’s growing stature on the global sporting stage. He revealed that the tournament reached an estimated 750 million households worldwide during its four-day run.
“The eyeballs on this tournament have elevated the Magical Kenya Open to the status that it is,” he said, pointing to increased international visibility for both the event and the country.
The KES 65 million sponsorship comes on the back of KBL’s recent KES 40 million investment in the HSBC SVNS 2 rugby tournament, signaling a sustained period of funding across multiple sporting disciplines.
“We also want to do more to ensure that the grassroots talent that is here can start reaching for that level,” Kilonzo said, adding that the company is maintaining sports sponsorships worth over half a billion shillings across its portfolio.
The 2026 Magical Kenya Open, held from February 19 to 22, saw South Africa’s Casey Jarvis clinch his maiden DP World Tour title after finishing on an impressive 25-under-par 255.
Kenyan interest was led by Njoroge Kibugu, who finished tied for 61st place after emerging as the only local golfer to make the cut, marking a notable milestone for Kenyan participation at the elite level of the tournament.
