Over 100 golfers set for CBK Golf Tournament in Kisii

More than 100 amateur golfers are expected to converge at Kisii Sports Club this Saturday, February 28, for the highly anticipated CBK Golf Tournament.

In a statement sent to KPC, organizers indicated that the one-day event that organizers will combine competitive sport with financial literacy.

The tournament will be played in the Stableford format, a scoring system designed to allow golfers of different handicaps to compete on an even footing while encouraging aggressive and entertaining play

Players earn points based on their net score on each hole, a structure that organizers say maximizes participation and excitement across all divisions.

Kisii Sports Club Captain Adrian Monari said the club is fully prepared to host the flagship event, which is expected to attract top amateur players from across the region.

He pointed to steady investments in infrastructure and course standards that have elevated the club’s standing on the national golfing calendar.

“We are proud to welcome over 100 golfers for the CBK tournament. Over the years, Kisii Sports Club has grown tremendously, both in infrastructure and reputation,” Monari said.

”Under our current leadership, we have positioned the club as a hub for major golf events in the region. This tournament is a testament to that progress and our commitment to growing the game.”

Golfers will compete for a wide range of honors, including the Overall Winner title, as well as Men’s and Ladies’ Winners and their respective runners-up.

The competition will be further broken down into Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 categories, each producing winners and runners-up, ensuring strong competition across skill levels

Additional awards have been lined up for Guest and Sponsor categories, alongside Senior and Junior Winners.

Skill-based prizes such as Longest Drive for both men and ladies, Nearest to the Pin and Best Effort are also expected to add extra intensity to the contest, giving every participant something tangible to play for.

Beyond the fairways, the tournament will feature a learning component led by the Central Bank of Kenya Kisii Centre.

Centre Manager Sophie Ongalo said golfers will be introduced to the DhowCSD platform, with a focus on practical lessons in investing in Treasury Bills and Bonds, aimed at building confidence in government securities among participants

Organizers say the February 28 event is likely to boost local sports tourism while reinforcing Kisii Sports Club’s growing reputation as a competitive golfing venue capable of hosting high-profile tournaments.

Under Monari’s stewardship, the club has expanded its tournament calendar, attracted prominent sponsors and continued to improve course standards, developments that have positioned it as a key destination for golf in the region.
