Allies of President William Ruto operating under the Jamii Imara Mashinani (JIM) initiative have accused the opposition of spreading misinformation aimed at discrediting government development projects.

The leaders made the remarks on arrival in Isiolo for a two-day citizen engagement forum, where they said false narratives were being peddled to undermine the government’s development agenda.

JIM is an initiative that brings together senior government officials, including Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, departmental directors, chief executive officers, and heads of state corporations, boards, and ministries.

The team said its grassroots engagements are designed to counter misinformation by allowing residents to directly question government officials and receive immediate, factual responses.

Addressing a press conference, the delegation said the forums help bridge what they described as a growing information gap by offering citizens direct access to decision-makers across various sectors.

Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards and leader of the Isiolo delegation, said the government has intensified citizen engagement to better understand local priorities while clearly communicating its development agenda.

“Our engagement is about listening to citizens, identifying priority areas, and explaining what the government is doing to improve lives,” she said.

The PS raised concern over rising drug and substance abuse in Isiolo, warning that increased consumption without moderation is contributing to a growing burden of cancer cases nationally.

She further noted that substance abuse has also led to declining hygiene standards, particularly among young men affected by addiction.

Following a meeting with Muslim leaders in Isiolo, Ms Muthoni, flanked by directors from various government institutions, said the government remains keen on addressing issues affecting Kenyans at all levels through coordinated, multi-agency action.

The JIM leadership called on Kenyans to maintain faith in President Ruto’s administration, insisting that the government remains committed to delivering on its campaign promises and accelerating development projects across the country.

They reiterated that sustained citizen engagement would remain central to countering misinformation, strengthening public trust, and ensuring accountability in government service delivery.
