Miriam Chebet and Amos Kiprotich delivered commanding performances to win the third edition of the Betika Kapsabet 15km Road Race, held on Sunday.4

More than 700 athletes turned out for the increasingly popular event.

Chebet, a gold medalist in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at BingwaFest in Siaya, stormed to victory in the women’s race, clocking an impressive 49:33.4.

She was the only athlete to dip under the 50-minute mark, underlining her growing dominance on the road circuit.

Judy Jepngetich finished second in 50:01.6, while Maryan Njoki completed the podium in 50:11.5 after a tightly contested battle among the leading pack.

Speaking after the race, Chebet said everything unfolded according to plan.

“It was a good race, and everything worked just as I had planned. I have been fine-tuning my speedwork since winning at Siaya during BingwaFest, and it is all paying off,” she said.

“I will sit down with my coach, reflect on the race, and plan what’s next. We are thankful to Betika for the continued support in athletics as it means a lot to us athletes.”

In the men’s race, Amos Kiprotich edged a fiercely competitive field to claim victory in 44:22.0.

He held off Philemon Rono Cherop, who finished a close second in 44:22.6, with Dennis Kipkurui rounding off the podium in 44:23.1.

Kiprotich described the contest as highly tactical, noting that he remained with the leading pack for most of the race before making his decisive move with one kilometre to go.

“It was a very tactical race, and I am content with the execution. I stuck with the leading group, and we all pushed ourselves so that we could post better times. I am happy to have come out victorious today,” said the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country silver medalist.

For their efforts, Chebet and Kiprotich each received Sh250,000. Second-placed finishers Jepngetich and Rono pocketed Sh150,000 each, while third-placed Njoki and Kipkurui took home Sh100,000 apiece.

Fourth and fifth finishers earned Sh50,000 and Sh40,000 respectively, while athletes finishing sixth to tenth in both the men’s and women’s races received Sh20,000 each.

The event marked the third edition of the Betika Kapsabet 15km Road Race and continued to attract elite and upcoming athletes from across the country, further cementing its place on Kenya’s competitive road-running calendar.
