The Media Council of Kenya joined family, friends, and colleagues in mourning Kiplangat Nicholas Kosgei, popularly known as Nick, who died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28, 2026.

In a condolence statement released on Sunday, the Council described Kosgei as a gifted and dedicated photojournalist whose professionalism and visual storytelling set him apart as a rising star in Kenya’s media fraternity.

“The Media Council of Kenya joins the family, friends, and colleagues of Kiplangat Nicholas Kosgei in mourning his tragic death,” the Council said.

“His gift for visual storytelling, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty marked him as a rising star in the media fraternity.”

At the time of his death, Kosgei was serving as a photojournalist in the office of the immediate former Emurua Dikirr Member of the National Assembly, the late Johana Ngeno, who also perished in the crash alongside other occupants.

MCK noted that Kosgei was an alumnus of Maseno University, Department of Media, where he graduated in 2023.

During his time at the institution, he also served as Head of News at Maseno Radio, a role through which he demonstrated strong leadership and journalistic rigor.

“Nick embodied the finest qualities of a young journalist—passionate, disciplined, and deeply committed to telling stories that mattered,” the Council stated.

The Council said Kosgei’s death represents a profound loss not only to his family and colleagues, but also to the wider media community, noting that his “vibrant spirit and promising career will be long remembered.”

Investigations into the cause of the helicopter crash are ongoing.
