Jhanda Unveils New Classrooms and Sh80 Million Bursary for Students

Eight new modern classrooms have been officially inaugurated at Kiamabundu Primary School in Nyaribari Chache Constituency, aimed at easing congestion and improving the learning environment.

Speaking during the ceremony, Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda said the project was funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and was purely focused on development.

“Today I am here for development and not politics. We have constructed eight storey classrooms to provide a conducive environment for our children to learn,” Jhanda said.

The legislator noted that rising student enrolment in the constituency has prompted a shift towards large-scale infrastructure expansion.

“Student numbers are increasing daily. It is no longer practical to construct one or two classrooms at a time. We have deliberately decided to build between eight and 12 classrooms at once, ensuring they are state-of-the-art facilities,” he added.

Jhanda emphasized that the new classrooms will help reduce congestion in public schools and improve academic performance by offering learners more space and better facilities.

He also defended a previous decision to halt the purchase of school buses in some institutions, arguing that earlier administrations had misplaced priorities.

“There were cases where schools with as few as 200 students were purchasing buses worth Sh10 million, yet they lacked classrooms, desks, lockers, and enough teachers. Priorities were misplaced,” he said.

Jhanda further stressed that Kisii County, particularly Nyaribari Chache, is driven by development and not tribal politics.

“Kisii and Nyaribari Chache are not places of tribal politics. Here we focus on development,” he said.

In addition to the classrooms, Jhanda launched an Sh80 million bursary programme to support students across all education levels, ensuring no child is sent home due to lack of fees, uniforms, or learning materials.

“We have set aside Sh80 million to guarantee that every child gets bursary support and remains in school,” he affirmed.
