Kenneth Karaya and Dinnah Safari claimed emphatic victories in the elite 100-kilometre races as the 2026 LOOP Safari Gravel Series launched its third season at the iconic Limuru Country Club.

The opener delivered a thrilling showcase of endurance, grit, and community spirit, setting the tone for East Africa’s premier gravel cycling series.

Against the backdrop of Limuru’s misty tea highlands and rolling countryside, 822 elite and recreational cyclists from across the region tackled demanding gravel terrain, fast descents, and scenic climbs.

The spectacle highlighted both competitive excellence and grassroots inclusivity.

In the men’s elite 100-kilometre race, Karaya dominated with a commanding time of 03:06:50. Stanley Ngugi (03:10:32) and Uganda’s Jordan Schleck (03:13:35) followed closely, securing second and third in a tightly contested finish.

“The race was muddy but enjoyable. The competition was stiff, yet everything went as planned. I look forward to an exciting series this year,” Karaya said.

The women’s elite race was equally fierce. Safari powered to victory in 04:08:04, edging out Kendra Masiga (04:09:23) and Monica Jelimo (04:12:52).

“I did not expect to win today. The field was very competitive, but once I caught momentum, I went for it. Winning the opening leg gives me morale for the rest of the season,” Safari reflected.

In the men’s 50-kilometre category, Ishmael Imani triumphed in 02:05:31, followed by Ian Wanyeki (02:05:50) and Kelvin Kamore (02:06:18).

Joanne Carroll (02:28:17) led the women’s race, with Jill Magrath (02:31:43) and Nira Mwangi (02:33:09) completing the podium.

The 20-kilometre and 5-kilometre races drew enthusiastic recreational riders and junior cyclists, underscoring the series’ commitment to inclusivity and grassroots development.

Top five finishers in the elite 100-kilometre races received cash prizes of KES 20,000, 15,000, 10,000, 7,000, and 5,000 respectively.

Beyond competition, the Limuru leg stood out for its strong community and sustainability focus.

Participants planted over 100 trees as part of LOOP DFS’s environmental agenda.

In a landmark investment, LOOP DFS also unveiled the renovated historic Cricket Pavilion at Limuru Country Club, enhancing facilities for athletes, youth programmes, and community events.

LOOP DFS CEO Eric Muriuki praised the event’s spirit: “Riding here in Limuru was an incredible personal experience. The terrain tested us, and the sense of community was inspiring.”

“We are building not just a race series, but a lifestyle movement rooted in wellness, adventure, and shared purpose. Our commitment extends beyond race day, from conservation to long-term projects like the pavilion renovation.”

The 2026 calendar now moves to Naivasha on June 13 for the UCI-accredited second leg, followed by the coast edition in Vipingo on August 28.

The season culminates on October 24 with the Riders’ Choice finale, where cyclists vote to determine the destination, reinforcing the community-led spirit of the series.

Organized by the Amani Project in collaboration with LOOP Digital Financial Services, the LOOP Safari Gravel Series continues to nurture emerging talent, foster cycling culture, and showcase Kenya’s breathtaking landscapes to the world.
