Kenya’s Hellen Obiri continued her remarkable form on Sunday, setting a new course record of 1:06:33 at the 2026 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon.
Obiri surged ahead after 15km, steadily extending her lead to claim victory, with fellow Kenyan Sharon Lokedi finishing second in 1:07:10.
Following the performance, Senator Essy Okenyuri congratulated the athlete on Facebook, applauding her discipline, courage, and champion mentality.
She highlighted Obiri’s two-time NYC Half Marathon success and celebrated her for representing Kenya with style.
“Congratulations to Hellen on this triumph. I equally applaud Sharon Lokedi… As Kenyans, we celebrate you,” Okenyuri wrote.

The policitian said that Obiri’s stride reflected discipline, courage and an unwavering belief in pushing beyond limits.
“As Kenyans, we celebrate you for always representing Kenya with style,” Okenyuri said.
Obiri’s journey from Boginchoncho village in Kisii County to global stardom is a testament to her resilience.
Born in 1989 as the fourth of six siblings, she started running in local school competitions before breaking onto the international stage.
Over the years, she has won multiple world titles on track, cross-country, and the marathon, including Olympic silver medals, the Boston Marathon, and the New York City Marathon.
Her latest victory reinforces Obiri’s versatility across distances and her status as one of Kenya’s most decorated athletes.
