Jubilee Party deputy  party leader Fred Matiang’i has criticized what he described as “historic wastage of public resources,” pledging to slash the budget of State House Nairobi by up to 80 percent if elected.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at Weithaga ACK Church, Dr Matiang’i questioned why the presidency requires significantly more funding than key national institutions such as the Kenya National Trading Corporation.

“Why should State House need more money than Kenyatta National Teaching and Referral Hospital (KNTRH)? No children are being born there,” he said, alleging that the expanded budget is often used to facilitate political patronage and bribery.

Dr Matiang’i said the country cannot justify increasing allocations to the presidency while crucial sectors continue to struggle for funding.

He promised that if elected President, resources saved from the proposed cuts would be redirected to priority sectors.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary also criticized the government’s handling of the education sector, accusing the current administration of lacking clear direction.

“Every day Kenyans are given a new excuse instead of solutions,” he said, adding that leadership should be defined by performance and accountability rather than longevity in office.

He maintained that Kenya’s development has historically been driven by hard work and collective effort, saying he is ready to work with leaders across political divides to move the country forward.

Dr Matiang’i was attending the service as part of a Jubilee Party delegation during the laying of a foundation stone for a new conference centre at the church.

He was received by Bishop Timothy Gichere of the Diocese of Mount Kenya Central.

Among leaders accompanying him were Jubilee National Chairman Kemosi Mogaka, Deputy Secretary General Zack Kinuthia, Executive Director Dann Mwangi, Senator Emeritus Kembi Gitura, and Nairobi County Assembly Deputy Speaker Paul Kados Kiguathi, among other county leaders.
