Several healthcare professionals are expected to gather at Milimani Law Courts today (Monday) in support of veteran obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka, who is expected to be arraigned following his arrest over the weekend.

In a statement, the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya, the umbrella body representing pharmacists nationwide, said it was concerned about the circumstances surrounding Dr Obwaka’s arrest and detention at Muthaiga Police Station on March 14–15.

The society described Obwaka as “a veteran Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of distinguished repute” who has dedicated his career to serving Kenyan families.

PSK expressed alarm over reports that the doctor had allegedly been denied cash bail despite the offence being bailable.

According to the statement, the situation raises “serious questions of fairness, due process, and the selective use of state power.”

The pharmacists’ body declared full solidarity with the medic and the wider health sector, stating that “an injury to one healthcare professional is an injury to all.”

The organization also called for authorities to clarify the basis of the arrest and ensure the investigative process is conducted transparently and lawfully.

It further demanded that Obwaka, whom it described as a senior citizen and respected practitioner, be treated with dignity.

In a direct call to action, PSK urged pharmacists and other healthcare workers in Nairobi to attend the court session in solidarity.

“Wear your white coat. Stand in solidarity. Let those who seek to intimidate healthcare professionals see that we are united, visible, and resolute,” the statement said.

PSK said it fully associates itself with positions taken by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union, Kenya Medical Association, and the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society, which have also called for due process in the matter.

As previously reported by the Kisii Press Club, the arrest of Dr Obwaka has sparked strong reactions within the medical fraternity and among legal professionals, with some describing the case as one that raises broader concerns about governance and accountability in healthcare institutions.
