Kenya has strengthened its position as a leading cruise tourism destination following the arrival of an international vessel at the Port of Mombasa.
This, according to officials, signals growing global confidence in the country’s tourism sector.
The ship, carrying hundreds of passengers and crew from across the world, docked on Wednesday, marking another milestone in efforts to position Kenya as a key hub along the Indian Ocean cruise circuit.
Officials said the development reflects the success of collaboration between government agencies and private sector players in enhancing the country’s appeal to international travelers.
Speaking during the docking of the vessel, a representative of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) reaffirmed the port’s strategic role in linking global visitors to Kenya’s rich tourism offerings.
“The Port of Mombasa remains a vital gateway connecting international visitors to Kenya’s diverse tourism attractions,” said Mr. Tonny Kibwana on behalf of the Managing Director.
“We are committed to providing efficient port services and ensuring a seamless experience for all visitors.”

The arrival is part of the broader Cruise-to-Park Initiative, which seeks to connect cruise passengers to inland tourism experiences and encourage longer stays in the country.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) used the occasion to invite visitors to explore Kenya’s renowned parks and reserves, highlighting the country’s biodiversity and unique wildlife experiences.
“We are offering group discounted park entry rates for both cruise passengers and crew to enhance accessibility and grow cruise tourism,” said Ms. Elema Hapicha, speaking on behalf of the Director General.
“We warmly welcome our visitors and are confident their experience in Kenya will be memorable and enriching.”
The discounted packages will allow tourists to visit key destinations such as Amboseli, Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Shimba Hills, and Marine Parks, with arrangements facilitated through tour operators.
Private sector players also welcomed the initiative, noting its impact on enriching visitor experiences.
Mr. Lambodara Hotta, Finance Director at Pollmans Tours & Safaris, praised the partnership with KWS.
“The collaboration is enhancing cruise tourism and ensuring visitors enjoy unique and memorable experiences across Amboseli, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West,” he said.
Stakeholders emphasized that sustained cooperation between KPA, KWS, and industry players will be critical in unlocking the full potential of cruise tourism and positioning Kenya as a competitive and sustainable destination.
