The fifth leg of the 2026 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series, the NCBA Muthaiga Open, tees off this weekend at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club.
The three-day tournament, running from Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 22, is expected to attract a strong field of 145 golfers, including 15 juniors—highlighting the growing depth of talent within Kenya’s amateur golf scene.
Fresh from his victory at the Windsor Classic held at Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, Jay Sandhu will be one of the players to watch. Competing on his home course, Sandhu will be aiming to build on his recent triumph and maintain momentum in the series.
Junior golfers are also expected to make a strong impression following standout performances at Windsor. Kanana Muthomi, who finished third overall on three-over par 219, will be among the rising stars seeking to challenge the more experienced field.
The tournament carries significant weight in the KAGC standings, with players battling for crucial points as the race for season honours intensifies.

Junaid Manji currently leads the standings with 334 points after winning the opening leg at Sigona Golf Club and finishing fifth at Windsor. Sandhu and Rafael Leming’ani sit second and third respectively.
Beyond the main event, attention will also turn to junior development, with two Junior Golf Foundation Kenya events scheduled over the weekend.
On Friday, the NCBA Interschool Golf Tournament will be staged at Windsor, bringing together young players from various schools in a competitive format aimed at nurturing emerging talent.
This will be followed on Saturday by the NCBA US Kids Golf Spring Local Tour – Nairobi at Karen Country Club, featuring boys and girls competing across different age categories.
NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to the sport, emphasizing the importance of supporting both amateur and junior golf.
“Through our continued support for amateur and junior tournaments such as the Muthaiga Open and the Junior Golf Foundation events this weekend, we remain committed to nurturing talent and strengthening the growth of golf in Kenya,” he said.
“It is encouraging to see increasing participation from both elite amateurs and juniors, which speaks to the bright future of the sport.”
