Africa’s rising golf stars are in Nairobi for the 2026 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC), which officially teed off Monday with a colourful flag-raising ceremony at the Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club.
The event brought together 89 elite junior golfers from 14 countries, marking the start of one of the continent’s premier youth golf tournaments.
Teams from Kenya, South Africa, Morocco, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mauritius, Egypt, Tunisia, Namibia, Botswana, Ghana, Tanzania, and Côte d’Ivoire marched in during the ceremony, celebrating unity and sportsmanship.
Speaking during the launch, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi said Kenya was proud to host the continental event.
“It is a proud moment for Kenya to host the continent’s finest young golfers. The Government’s investment in this championship is a testament to our commitment to providing opportunities for our young athletes to have the exposure they need to transition into global professionals,” he said.
“The course is ready, the teams are primed, and we look forward to a week of exceptional golf that highlights Kenya as a premier sporting hub.”

The tournament proper begins Tuesday morning, with the first round teeing off at 8:00 a.m. The opening match on the first tee will feature a strong female lineup of Kenya’s Kanana Muthomi, Zambia’s Deborah Changa, and Uganda’s Elizabeth Danelle Kawalya.
In the boys’ category, attention will be on Kenya’s Yuvraj Rajput, one of the top-ranked juniors expected to headline competition on the challenging Windsor course.
Africa Golf Confederation President Johnson Omolo underscored the significance of the championship as a pathway to global competition.
“Today, we have raised 14 flags, but we stand under one banner of African excellence. This championship is more than a tournament; it is the definitive proving ground for our youth,” he said.
“As these players tee off tomorrow, they are not just playing for a trophy, but for the honour of representing Africa at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.”
The three-day tournament, running from March 24 to 26, will be played in a 72-hole stroke play format, featuring both team and individual categories. Top-performing teams will earn qualification to represent Africa at the Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
Fans are invited to follow the action live at Windsor or through the Junior Golf Foundation’s digital platforms.
