Ruiru Sports Club is set to host one of the most anticipated events on Kenya’s golfing calendar, with over 900 golfers expected to take part in the 2026 Captain’s Prize from April 6 to April 12.

More than just a tournament, the Captain’s Prize has evolved into a weeklong golf festival, featuring themed competitions, community-driven activities and entertainment, culminating in Saturday’s main Captain’s Prize showdown.

This year’s edition comes on the heels of major upgrades to the club’s fairways and greens, completed under the leadership of Club Captain Justus Mathenge.

The improvements are expected to enhance playability and elevate the overall golfer experience.

“We are excited to welcome golfers from across the country for a week that celebrates every part of the game, from juniors and seniors to caddies, staff, amateurs and professionals,” said Mathenge.

“With the upgrades to our fairways and greens, the course is in excellent condition and ready for a truly memorable Captain’s Prize week.”

The event will feature a packed schedule throughout the week. Activities begin on Monday with a clergy and friends’ tournament to officially launch the festivities.

Tuesday will see a seniors’ tournament, while midweek action will include a special competition for caddies and club staff, recognizing their vital role behind the scenes.

A Captain’s Club Night is scheduled for Thursday, bringing together members and guests for a social and celebratory evening. On Friday, a mixed-format tournament will feature professionals and amateurs, alongside a Gen X and Gen Z segment, followed by entertainment.

The highlight of the week—the Captain’s Prize tournament—will take place on Saturday, attracting the largest turnout of participants.

The festival will wrap up on Sunday with a junior golf day, underscoring the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent and growing the sport.

With strong national participation expected, the event promises a vibrant atmosphere both on the course and at the clubhouse.

The tournament has attracted sponsorship from leading brands, including Isuzu, NCBA, Pernod Ricard, AM Communications, Stanbic Bank, TotalEnergies, On-site Fiber, Rentco Asset Leasing and Britam, reflecting the growing stature of Ruiru Sports Club’s Captain’s Prize on the local golfing scene.
