Amateur golfer Ali Wasim maintained his grip on the top spot after round two of the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing Qualifying School at Limuru Country Club.

Wasim, who led after the opening round, posted a 1-over-par 73 to sit at 3-under-par 141, narrowly holding onto the outright lead heading into round three.

His round began with a bogey on the par-5 3rd but recovered with a birdie on the 9th to make the turn at even par.

On the back nine, Wasim added a birdie on the 13th but dropped shots on the 12th and 14th, ultimately managing the round to retain his advantage.

Reflecting on his performance, Wasim said: “It wasn’t my best round, but I’m happy I stayed in it. I made a few mistakes but also recovered at key moments. The focus now is to reset, stay patient, and come back stronger tomorrow.”

Tanzania’s Issac Wanyeche tees off during the second round of the Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing at Limuru Country Club.

Tanzania’s Isaac Wanyeche moved into second place at 1-under-par 143, firing the day’s best round of 2-under-par 70.

Wanyeche’s performance included an eagle on the par-4 2nd and birdies on the 5th, 12th, and 18th, offset by dropped shots on the 13th, 14th, and 16th.

“I worked on my short game today, which improved my putting. The back nine was challenging, but I finished strong with a birdie on 18,” said Wanyeche.

“Going forward, I’m focused on improving each round rather than chasing the lead.”

Round one co-leader William Odek struggled with a 4-over-par 76, dropping into a tie for third with John Karichu, who carded a 2-under-par 70.

Amateurs Sujan Shah and Sammy Mulama are tied for fifth at 3-over-par 147, remaining in contention as the tour heads into its decisive third round.

With just two rounds remaining, players will need consistency, composure, and precision to secure top positions and a coveted spot on the Sunshine Development Tour 2026/27 season.
