Leaders in Kisumu County have intensified calls for justice following the violent attack on Godfrey Osotsi, as fresh details and reactions continue to emerge.

In a statement, Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili condemned the incident, describing it as “cowardly, criminal, and utterly unacceptable.”

The senator was reportedly attacked at a shopping mall within Kisumu City Centre, sparking widespread concern over rising political intolerance.

“Such brazen violence has no place in our society and stands in direct affront to the rule of law, public order, and the democratic values we hold dear,” Owili said.

The Deputy Governor, communicating on behalf of the county administration under Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, emphasized that the attack goes beyond an assault on an individual leader.

“This is not only an assault on a leader but an attack on the very fabric of civility, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence that defines our county,” he stated.

The latest developments build on earlier reports published by the Kisii Press Club, which highlighted the shocking nature of the incident and the political undertones surrounding the assault.

The attack has since drawn condemnation from leaders across the region, with many warning against a resurgence of politically motivated violence.

Owili called on the National Police Service (NPS) and other security agencies to act swiftly, urging them to “move with utmost speed, precision, and determination” to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.

“There must be no room for impunity,” he added.

He further underscored the importance of safeguarding democratic freedoms, noting that every individual has the right to express divergent views without fear of intimidation or harm.

“Divergence of views is not a justification for lawlessness. It is a cornerstone of democratic engagement and must be accommodated with tolerance and respect at all times,” Owili said.

Kisumu County leadership has also issued a firm warning against any form of political violence, vowing zero tolerance for acts that threaten peace and stability.

“We stand in solidarity with Hon. Godfrey Osotsi and wish him a swift recovery,” the statement added.
