The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has called on the National Police Service (NPS) to urgently identify, arrest, and prosecute those behind the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.

In a statement, ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga strongly condemned the incident, terming it a cowardly and criminal act. She emphasized that violence has no place in Kenya’s democratic space.

“Any attack on a leader because of his views or associations is an attack on the very democratic space Kenyans fought so hard to win. Violence is never an acceptable response to political contestation,” Wanga said.

Wanga reiterated that ODM does not condone intimidation, coercion, or political violence, noting that the party is anchored on social democracy, pluralism, and constitutionalism.

She added that the ODM Party Constitution commits to protecting human rights and eliminating tribalism, harassment, and oppression, while safeguarding freedom of expression and human dignity.

Meanwhile, Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili also condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate and un-Kenyan.

He assured residents and leaders of their safety, urging security agencies to act decisively and maintain order in the lakeside city.

Wanga wished Senator Osotsi a quick recovery and expressed solidarity with him and his family, as well as all Kenyans who believe in peaceful political engagement.

She further cautioned against stigmatizing the people of Kisumu, stressing that criminal acts are individual and should not be used to profile entire communities.
