Douglas Rundgren delivered a commanding performance to claim top honours at the NCBA Golf Series qualifier held at Nanyuki Sports Club, outplaying a competitive field of 90 golfers in Saturday’s seventh leg of the 2026 circuit.
Playing off handicap 7, Rundgren carded an impressive 77 to emerge as the overall gross winner, sealing his place at the Grand Finale scheduled for November 28 at Karen Country Club.
His victory also spearheaded a strong showing by his clubmates, several of whom booked slots in the season-ending showdown.
Hot on his heels was retired Major General Peter Waweru, who returned a solid round of 78 off handicap 4 to finish second. Waweru, a former winner of the Nanyuki qualifier in 2024, once again underlined his consistency on home turf.
Gabriel Miungi, last year’s Division One winner, secured third place overall after posting a score of 80 off handicap 4, earning a return ticket to the Grand Finale.

In the subsidiary categories, Stephen Wambugu impressed to win Division Two with 40 stableford points off handicap 18, while Marion Githinji stood out in Division Three with an excellent 43 stableford points off handicap 32.
The staff category title went to NCBA Nanyuki Branch Manager Samuel Mwangi, who carded 32 stableford points playing off handicap 27.
Speaking after the event, Mwangi lauded the strong turnout and growing competitiveness of the series, noting its impact on the regional golfing scene.
“We are delighted to host the NCBA Golf Series here in Nanyuki and to see such a strong turnout from the golfing community. The level of competition continues to rise with every leg, and it is encouraging to see both seasoned golfers and emerging players showcasing their talent. As NCBA, we remain committed to supporting platforms that grow the game and bring golfers together,” he said.
The Nanyuki leg forms part of the wider 2026 NCBA Golf Series, which continues to make its way across clubs in Kenya and the East African region.
The first regional event is set for June in Uganda.
Attention now shifts to the next stop on the calendar—a mini-qualifier at Golf Park scheduled for Saturday, April 18, as the race to the Grand Finale gathers momentum.
