Athletics Kenya (AK) has paid glowing tribute to Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum following news of his death.
AK described him as a transformational leader who elevated African athletics on the global stage.
In a statement released on Wednesday, AK President Jackson Tuwei said the athletics fraternity across Africa had lost a visionary administrator, mentor and unifying figure whose contribution to the sport will endure for generations.
“It is with profound sorrow and deep sadness that I have received the news of the passing of Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum,” said Tuwei.
Tuwei extended condolences to Kalkaba’s family, the people of Cameroon, the Confederation of African Athletics, World Athletics and the global athletics community.
“President Kalkaba was an exceptional leader whose dedication, wisdom, and passion for athletics greatly transformed and elevated the sport across the African continent,” he said.
Tuwei, who served alongside Kalkaba as CAA Vice President and colleague on the World Athletics Council, said he had personally witnessed the late administrator’s commitment to advancing African athletics internationally.
“I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand his visionary leadership, humility, and tireless efforts in championing African athletics on the global stage,” he added.
The Athletics Kenya boss further described Kalkaba as “a towering sports administrator, mentor, and unifying figure whose legacy will forever remain embedded in the history of athletics.”
