KNH Doctors Deliver Quadruplets After High-Risk Pregnancy Journey

A 32-year-old woman from Kiambu County has successfully delivered quadruplets at Kenyatta National Hospital following a high-risk pregnancy that doctors carefully managed for 12 weeks.

Beatrice Wanja arrived at the hospital at just 22 weeks pregnant, with doctors immediately identifying her case as highly delicate due to the risks associated with carrying four babies.

According to the hospital, the medical team closely monitored her condition, stabilized her blood pressure, and worked to prevent life-threatening complications throughout the pregnancy.

Wanja delivered the four babies through a Caesarean section at 34 weeks.

The operation was led by consultant obstetrician Dr. Esther Wanjiku, assisted by Dr. Josephine Njoroge, Dr. Naanyu, anesthesiologist Dr. Asher Chweya, and theatre nurse Mr. Hezbon Nyangeri.

Born prematurely, the babies were immediately admitted to the hospital’s Newborn Unit for specialized care under Dr. Wairimu Kimani and Principal Nursing Officer Ms. Naomi Ngatunyi.

The hospital said the newborns weighed 1,950 grams, 1,490 grams, 1,790 grams and 1,110 grams respectively at birth.

“My deepest gratitude to the entire team at Kenyatta National Hospital. They gave me and my babies a fighting chance,” Wanja said in a statement shared by the hospital.

She thanked the medical staff for protecting her family “with skill, compassion, and unwavering dedication.”

The hospital described the successful delivery as a reflection of its commitment to quality maternal and newborn healthcare.
